Fix vs Replace–Understanding Uptown Faucet Repair

When your faucet is broken, the first thing you’re probably wondering is how much it will be to fix it. Obviously, a repair will probably be less expensive (for now anyways) compared to replacing it altogether. But is it really worth it to put money into something that could be replaced instead of paying to have someone come fix it?

Ultimately, the question becomes: how do you know whether you should repair your faucet versus replace it? You need to understand the root cause thoroughly to make this kind of decision. For instance, if the faucet is leaking from the base or dripping when it’s turned off, the cause is likely a worn O-ring or cartridge, which can be easily replaced. However, if those components look okay but the faucet itself is corroded or cracked internally, the faucet will need to be replaced because no amount of changing out internal components will fix the leaking problem you’re experiencing. Similarly, if your faucet has a loose or wobbly handle, it’s likely fixable by tightening the set screw or replacing the handle stem, but if the threads are stripped, you will need to replace the faucet.

As a general rule of thumb, most faucet problems are fixable, but older faucets or faucets that have been improperly used, may need to be replaced because there is no way to fix the kind of damage that has occurred over time.Ā
