River Forest Hydro Jetting – Everything You Need to Know about Removing Stubborn Clogs

Hydro jetting is a method plumbers use to clear blockages from residential and commercial drain lines. With hydro jetting River Forest plumbers use a high-pressure stream of water (like an extra powerful pressure washer) to blast through tough clogs. Here’s how it works:

Preparation

A plumber will shut off water to your pipes and may need to disconnect fixtures to gain clear access to your pipes. Then, they may do a camera inspection to find the clog and determine the extent of the blockage. Once they have an idea of what they’re dealing with the plumber will insert a flexible hose with a special nozzle to shoot a concentrated stream of water at high PSI into the pipe.

Cleaning

The force of the water will break the clog apart and move the debris (grease, hair, soap scum, mineral scale, sediment buildup, tree roots, etc.) through the pipe downstream. Once the clog is dislodged the stream of water will also be able to scrub the interior pipe walls to smooth them out so they’re more able to resist future buildup.

The great part about hydro jetting is that the process is able to clean out the entire inside of the pipe (unlike rodding, which bores through a clog to get water moving again, but doesn’t have 360-degree cleaning capability). However, hydro jetting equipment should only be operated by licensed plumbing professionals with the experience needed to operate it safely because the force of the water coming out can be very dangerous to people and plumbing when done incorrectly.
