How to Fix a Broken Drain Pipe Underground

When a pipe breaks underground, it will need to be dug up to be repaired. The type and location of the pipe will determine whether this digging can be done with a shovel or whether it will require an excavator. Sprinkler system pipes can typically be uncovered with a shovel because irrigation is not usually buried too deeply. However, sewer lines that are bigger and more important are buried deeper, which means that they will require heavy machinery to uncover. This kind of major plumbing fix will need to be completed by an experienced plumbing company.

After digging up the pipe, a local plumber will then assess the damage and determine how much of the pipe needs to be replaced. The damaged part will be cut out and replaced to get water flowing again. The plumber will then check their work to ensure that there are no leaks from the pipe fittings or any other issues occurring. Once the pipe repair is finished, it will then be reburied and grass or landscaping will need to be filled back in or replanted to restore your lawn to its former appearance.

Obviously, the more pipe that needs to be replaced, the more materials it will take to do the job and the longer it will take complete the repairs, which means the more it will cost to repair your underground plumbing. However, if you have a broken sewer line, you will need to get it fixed immediately to avoid putting people in danger from leaking sewage.
