Why is My Bathtub Faucet is Leaking?

A bathtub faucet can wear out just like any other faucet, especially under heavy use conditions. If the bathtub is used frequently by children or to bathe pets, it may experience more pulling and bumping, which can loosen the handle and take its toll on other components internally, resulting in a broken bathroom faucet. A worn-out shower or tub faucet cartridge may be to blame for leaking as well. If you are handy, you may be able to remove the faucet after turning off the water to troubleshoot the issue. If you choose to work on it yourself, just remember that a faucet is a delicate part even if it doesn’t look like it. Wrenching hard on a faucet that’s stuck can strip it or rip it right away from the pipe, causing much bigger plumbing issues. If you have any doubts about working on it yourself, call a local plumber to come look at the faucet in question. A licensed plumber will have significant experience in bathroom plumbing to aid in troubleshooting the issue and fixing it quickly. If a replacement part is needed, a plumber is also far more likely to have it on hand than the typical homeowner (or be able to source it from a local plumbing distributor quickly).

Don’t ignore a leaking bathtub faucet. Even a small drip can drive up your water usage quickly, increasing your water bill. An ongoing drip is not only annoying, it can also damage your bathtub – leaving a persistent water stain in the basin that’s hard to remove. Call a local plumber right away to get your bathtub faucet repaired or replaced.
