Roto Rooting vs Hydro Jetting

Roto rooting uses a spinning drill-like tool to clear pipes of blockages. A roto rooter breaks up both organic and inorganic matter that’s clogging pipes to get water flowing normally again. Like rodding, roto rooting uses a grinding action to remove hair, debris, sediment, and roots that have infiltrated the lines.

Hydro jetting achieves the same result using a highly concentrated stream of water. The specialized hose is fed into the pipe and directed at the blockage for maximum results. Unlike roto rooting, hydro jetting does not involve inserting metal components into the line, making it a safer choice for more delicate lines. It is also better for very small spaces (small diameter pipe and tight angles).

If you believe that you have a clogged pipe, an experienced local plumber can diagnose the issue and recommend the right course of action. The plumber will consider the age and condition of the pipe, its location, the possible cause of the clog, and the extent of the blockage when making a recommendation.

Roto rooting, rodding, and hydro jetting services all involve complicated equipment that require a professional to operate safely. The danger of trying to operate these without the necessary experience or right assistance is very real. These machines can cause serious injury, loss of limbs, and even death when misused. If you have a clogged pipe or blocked main sewer line, call a licensed professional plumber. Never try these techniques yourself!
