What Should You do if Your Water Faucet is Leaking Outside?

Water is leaking from the faucet on the outside of your house – what do you do now?

If your exterior water faucet is just dripping, this can be something as simple as a worn-out O-ring. However, if water is rushing out or spraying from the base of the faucet, it’s likely that frozen water inside has caused a break in either the pipe just behind the faucet or within the faucet itself. Turn the water off immediately to avoid a flooding situation in your basement or along your home foundation in your yard. Afterwards, call a local plumber to have someone come out and investigate the issue. A professional plumber will have the tools needed to remove your water spigot and get the exterior water faucet break repaired. The fix may require installing a new outdoor water faucet, but unless you see obvious damage, this may not be diagnosable until the faucet has been removed.
