Does Sewer Rodding Need to Remove the Toilet?

Rodding is a technique used by professional plumbers to break up blockages in pipes. This approach can be used on major areas like sewer lines or smaller areas like sinks and toilets. Rodding can break up clogs from hair, grease, sediment, roots, or other matter. The rod style and size will depend on the job.

In the case of main line sewer rodding, a series of larger rods will be used to clear out the width of the pipe along the length of it to ensure a smooth flow of water. Shower or toilet rodding, on the other hand, will use much smaller rods to do the job. When a shower, toilet, sink, or other internal plumbing fixture needs to be rodded, it does not need to be removed. The professional plumber doing the job will determine which size auger or rod configuration is needed to get the job done and get to work. It’s possible that rodding will not work depending on the location of the clog and the type of matter causing the clog. If rodding doesn’t work, an experienced plumber can try other solutions to unclog your plumbing. A licensed plumber may also use techniques like hydro jetting or water ramming to dislodge the clog and restore your plumbing back to top performance.
