Bathroom Sink Plumbing Installation

When it comes to installing a bathroom sink, there is a lot to consider. If you are simply taking out an old sink and putting a new sink of the exact same size and style in, you may be able to do that yourself. At its most basic level, replacing a bathroom sink involves turning off the water, unhooking the plumbing underneath the sink, loosening the seal on the sink, taking the old one out, gluing the underside of the new sink, setting it in place, reconnecting the plumbing, turning the water back on, and waiting for the glue to set.

However, when the old sink has failed in some capacity, removing it may be tricky (and potentially messy). Be especially careful with cracked, leaking, sagging, or wobbling sinks. The last thing you want is to get hurt or damage another area of your bathroom (like the countertop, cabinets, or flooring) trying to remove an old broken sink. Be sure that any water spilled during the process it cleaned right away to avoid forgetting about it or allowing it to get into areas that you can’t dry up. Remember, even a little bit of water can allow dangerous mold to grow.

If you are changing sink types (for instance from a drop-in to a trough or vessel sink), or need plumbing moved, you will definitely need to hire a local plumber to do the work for you. Moving pipes or reconfiguring your bathroom layout will need the tools and skillset of an experienced plumber. A licensed plumber will ensure that any work being performed is done according to current code to avoid costly fixes later.
