Kitchen Faucets Replacement – What to Look For

When you’re replacing your kitchen sink faucet, there are lots of options to choose from – LOTS! So, where do you start? You mainly want to pay attention to five things: the number of mounting holes, supply line size, finish, functionality, and style.

Mounting Holes – Look at how many holes your existing faucet has and then either find a faucet that has the same number of holes or one that has a mounting plate large enough to cover over the holes you already have. Otherwise, you’ll need to have another hole drilled in your countertop to accommodate the faucet, which is a pain.

Supply Line Size – Most faucets these days have 3/8” supply lines, but some homes still have ½” lines and shut offs. That doesn’t mean you can’t buy a faucet with 3/8” lines, but it is something to be aware of because you’ll need to change them out, which will increase the amount of work for the project.

Finish – Your faucet should match the other nearby fixtures and kitchen appliances. A kitchen faucet that does not match the finish of the sink will look odd even if they aren’t drastically different. If the faucet you like doesn’t come in the right finish, keep looking until you find something that matches.

Functionality – Some faucets have separate pull-out sprayers and some have them built right into the main faucet stem. Look at where the pull-out is located to ensure it will reach everywhere in your sink. This is especially important for sinks that have nonstandard placement (like those positioned on the sink corner instead of the middle of the sink). Similarly, some faucets are higher, while others are shorter. Find the right size faucet to fit the depth of your sink to ensure that water doesn’t splash out when you use it.

Style – Lastly, find an aesthetic that you like. After all, you’ll have to see it every day! Find something that matches the design of your home or your own personal style to ensure you’ll love it.

Once you’ve found the perfect faucet for your home, hire a local plumber to install it for you to ensure you won’t end up with any leaks that could result in water damage to your home.
